PHSE with RSE

Intent

Our scheme of work aims to equip children with essential skills for life; it intends to develop the whole child through carefully planned and resourced lessons that develop the knowledge, skills and attributes children need to protect and enhance their wellbeing. Through these lessons, children will learn how to stay safe and healthy, build and maintain successful relationships and become active citizens, responsibly participating in society around them.

National Curriculum
Our whole-school framework incorporates RSE within PSHE lessons and is built around three central themes, revisited annually with increasing depth through a spiral curriculum:
  • Health and Wellbeing: Children learn about physical and mental health, healthy eating, physical activity, emotional resilience, personal hygiene, and safety (including road, fire, and rail safety). In Upper Key Stage 2, pupils learn about the physical and emotional changes of puberty.
  • Relationships Education: We teach children how to build healthy, respectful friendships and family connections. This includes learning about courtesy, celebrating diversity, safe conflict resolution, recognizing boundaries, and understanding the concept of personal consent and privacy.

  • Living in the Wider World: Pupils explore their roles within the community, fundamental British values, and environmental responsibility. We also introduce early economic wellbeing, including financial literacy, saving, and identifying online financial risks like scams.
Online Safety and Digital Literacy
Digital safety is woven deeply into our curriculum. Children learn to navigate the online world safely, manage screen time, understand age restrictions on social media and gaming, and recognize how to report online bullying or harmful content.
